Support Groups

Helping you process

We offer virtual support groups to help our community when they’re going through it. Whether you have cancer or you’re a caregiver, we have a support network for you.

LGBTQIA+ Patient Support Group

Available to anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ and is currently in or post cancer treatment. This group meets virtually on the first Tuesday of every month from 8:00 – 9:30 pm ET.

We offer the LGBTQIA+ Cancer Support Group because:

  • People who identify as LGBT face distinct challenges when it comes to cancer and many LGBT survivors do not feel welcome or understood in mainstream support groups.
  • LGBT-specific support groups are the top request made by LGBT cancer survivors, but there is a shortage of these groups in the U.S.

The LGBTQIA+ Cancer Support Group is facilitated by Joshua Bechdel, MS, LPC.

Young Adult Caregiver Support Group

Available to young adults (ages 18-40) who identify as a caregiver to someone with cancer. This group meets virtually every Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm PT and is only available to people living in California.

We offer the YA caregiver support group because:

  • Being a caregiver can have a significant impact on your mental and physical wellbeing. Approximately 40% of caregivers experience anxiety and/or depression and a majority of caregivers experience sleep problems.
  • Being a caregiver comes with a range of new and challenging experiences and emotions. The role of caregiver has shifted over time, and is now more intensive than ever before as most cancer treatment is provided in an outpatient setting.

The YA Caregiver Support Group is facilitated by Sophia Makal, MA, AMFT, APCC.

Community Support Groups

We offer community support groups on Facebook for patients and caregivers to connect with other people going through similar experiences. Group members are encouraged to talk about what they’re going through, share their insights, and ask or answer questions from other community members.
